Iceland’s best go-kart track will open for the first time this weekend at the Korputorg shopping centre on the outskirts of Reykjavik.

“The country’s interest in this sport is continually growing,” said Karim Djermoum, Executive Manager.

The track is 900 metres long and 12 metres wide and will offer 16 top quality go-karts to rent. The track is also equipped with state-of-the-art timekeeping equipment, meaning Iceland finally has a go-kart track which can be described as world class.

Korputorg is Iceland’s newest massive out-of-town shopping centre and has been nicknamed ‘Krepputorg’ because of the hard time it has had since opening, debt-laden, immediately after the financial crisis (kreppa) began last autumn.

Consequently, Korputorg has often employed innovative and popular gimmicks to get customers in their cars and out to the very edge of the urban nowhere between Reykjavik and Mossfellsbaer – ideas including bouncy castles, one day sales and free snacks.

The sheer scale of this latest “gimmick” promises to become a long-term favourite with racing enthusiasts and the general public alike.
